Three GOP lawmakers are calling for Elon Musk to be named Speaker of the House after he used his X platform to disrupt a congressional funding bill and push the federal government to the brink of a shutdown within 24 hours. Senator Rand Paul was the first to suggest this idea, stating that “nothing would disrupt the swamp more than electing Elon Musk.” Senator Mike Lee also endorsed Musk as Speaker, while Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene expressed her support on X, saying that “DOGE can only truly be accomplished by reigning in Congress.” Musk’s role in killing a bipartisan government funding deal, which was negotiated by current Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, has caused chaos and uncertainty in the government. With no clear path to a viable bill, some are suggesting that Johnson should just hand over his gavel to Musk. However, there is no Constitutional requirement for the Speaker of the House to be an elected member of Congress. Musk responded to the criticism on X, stating that his critics are just upset that their attempt to pillage taxpayers failed.
