India, the world’s fastest-growing major economy, is intensifying its efforts to transition to renewable energy sources. After missing its 2022 renewables target, the country is set to add 35 GW of solar and wind energy capacity by the end of the fiscal year in March 2025. This includes 30 GW of new solar capacity and 5 GW of new wind capacity.
As of August 2024, India had approximately 153 GW of renewable energy capacity. The planned additions are part of India’s broader goal to increase its non-fossil power capacity to 500 GW by 2030, underscoring the challenges and commitments in meeting its clean energy objectives.
