During his first visit to India, Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman made a bold move by introducing an AI companion for everyone. At the Building AI Companions for India event in Bengaluru, Suleyman encouraged Indian enterprises to embrace the Copilot wave and take advantage of the resources and APIs that are now widely available. He also reflected on the importance of timing in the success of AI, using DeepMind’s inception in 2010 as an example. Suleyman praised India for its fast-growing market and strong R&D teams, which include a diverse range of professionals such as social scientists, psychologists, and comedians. He highlighted AI’s potential to democratize knowledge and make it accessible across work environments. S Krishnan, secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, GoI, also emphasized the importance of voice and linguistic inclusivity in driving AI adoption in the country. Suleyman urged for a balanced approach to AI, acknowledging the need for careful scrutiny while also recognizing its significant benefits. He stressed the importance of not overreacting and missing out on the potential benefits of AI in delivering productivity, education, wealth, well-being, and access to legal and medical advice.
