The main speaker has a few physical controls on its top surface, but for more extensive control, an unglamorous remote control handset is available. The Technics Audio Center control app, which is free for iOS and Android, offers even more control options. While the app may not be the most visually appealing, it is a stable and useful interface. It allows for integration of popular music streaming services such as Amazon Music, Deezer, Qobuz, Spotify, and TIDAL, as well as firmware updates, room-correction, and bass and treble adjustments.
The speaker supports resolutions up to 32 bit/384 kHz PCM and DSD 256, depending on how the digital content is connected. With a wireless connection, the resolution is scaled down to 24 bit/96 kHz, but with a wired connection, 24 bit/192 kHz is available. Internet radio, Apple AirPlay, and Google Cast are also supported, and the speaker will soon be Roon Ready with an upcoming over-the-air update.
Once the speaker is tuned to the room and the control app is customized, the Technics system offers a compelling listening experience. Whether playing vinyl, streaming high-resolution files, or listening to a CD, the sound is always controlled, balanced, and unflappable. There is no flashy or overpowering quality to the sound, but it is consistently enjoyable and well-rounded.
