In 2024, the world of spatial computing saw the release of two major virtual reality headsets: the Apple Vision Pro and the Meta Quest 3S. While these devices offer immersive experiences, they can also be limiting as they disconnect the user from the real world. This is where smart glasses come in, providing a more approachable and convenient way to interact with the digital world while still being able to see the real world. These internet-connected eyewear devices have come a long way from the days of Google Glass, with companies like Ray-Ban Meta leading the pack. With features like photo and video capabilities, music and call functions, and voice-activated features, these glasses have proven to be both stylish and useful. Other companies have also entered the market with their own versions of smart glasses, offering a variety of features and functions. While display-driven AR glasses are still in the running, the success of display-free smart glasses shows that there is a demand for this type of technology. As a Tech journalist, I have seen the evolution of smart glasses and am excited to see where this technology will go in the future.
