OpenText, a leading Canadian information management company, recently announced its expansion in India by increasing the size of its Bengaluru-based centre of excellence (CoE). The new facility, spanning over 70,000 sqft, is part of the company’s focused expansion plans in India. The CoE is not just a back office, but also houses engineering and product development teams working on OpenText’s business clouds, AI, cybersecurity, and DevOps. With over 6000 employees in India, the company’s global workforce is 25% Indian. In the last two years, the Bengaluru workforce has grown by 194%. Saurabh Saxena, regional vice president of OpenText India, stated that the continuous and dynamic talent pool in India is a major factor in the company’s aggressive investment in the CoE. The team also credits the Indian government’s focus on AI as a key reason for growth. At the recent Bengaluru Tech Summit, the Karnataka government introduced the GCC Policy 2024 to attract 500 new GCCs to the state and create 3.5 lakh jobs by 2029. Karnataka’s IT minister Priyank M Kharge highlighted the state’s position as a global hub for GCCs and the government’s commitment to driving growth and innovation in the sector. Bengaluru remains the top destination for GCCs in India, with a 34% share of the total GCCs in the country. This can be attributed to the city’s strong IT industry, skilled workforce, and good infrastructure. The Karnataka government’s latest GCC policy aims to attract 500 new GCCs to the state, further solidifying Bengaluru’s position as a GCC hotspot.
